Acetylene generator..anyone recognize?

I acquired this brass acetylene generator, and it's unlike any I've ever seen.  About 12 inches long, water tank on top, with tubing, vent holes, and a removable end on bottom cylinder.  I assume that's how you put the powder in....

 

There's a separate internal chamber in bottom tank, on end where tubing enters....the internal baffle for this chamber has a hole in it dead center....and gas comes out top (water) chamber, so there might be internal tubing or compartment there too...

 

any ideas to manufacturer and/or operation of this unit?
