Would love some more information on my fathers Marmon Sixteen Victoria coupe

So the story goes like this. My grandfather, Dr. J Otto Lottes was an orthopedic surgeon and collector of everything interesting. Among the things he collected were classic American cars. Within his collection were several Model As and Ts, a 1961 Chrystler Imperial, and several Marmons, including two Sixteens. After he died in the 90s, most of his collection was sold off, My father decided to keep the coolest ones, a Sixteen being one of them.

Here is where I would like more information. Ive done a good amount of research online but havent been able to find much information about Sixteens other than the obvious stuff and the same story told in every auction blurb. My father is actually checking on the car in storage this weekend so hopefully ill be able to update with more info about it, but for now id love if someone who knew more about these to share.

Basically, we know the car is

  • either a '32 or '31. my father though it was a 31 but the car storage place we keep it at thinks its a 32. When my father returns with the paperwork and such we should find out for sure.  update- its definitely a 1932
  • We also know that it is a Victoria Coupe, which ive heard are some of the more desirable and rare body styles.
  • It had an engine swap in the 80s or 90s when a man approached my father saying that back in the day, my grandfather had promised him the engine out of his Sixteen, Luckily, and im not sure how, Grandpa had a spare sixteen engine laying around, so we had it professionally swapped out. We gave the man the old engine and installed the used, but in much better shape, spare engine
  • It has original creme colored paint
  • It was owned by Dr. J Otto Lottes of St. Louis

Hopefully we will know more about this car when we have the paperwork, but in the meantime id love to hear anything you all had to say about this.

Thank you

UPDATE:

We have a bit more information on the car. My father found a letter in the paperwork with the car from Duke Martsen, then president of the Marmom Club, welcoming him to the club. It is difficult to read the handwriting on the letter but it appears that our car belonged to a Gordon Nixon (at least thats what it looks like), who bought the car from an Al Bartz.

The serial for the car is 16-143-690, engine number 16733. This would be the engine number for the old engine, before it was swapped in the '90s.
