Guest AZscott
Hi All,My 41 Cont. Cab. did not have the oil filter hooked up. We are now hooking it up and I searched the site and someone said they used a Fram C-4. The post was an older post. Can someone please confirm this? Was any modificaton neccessary? Thanks,Scott
peecher
Scott, The oil filter and it's proper plumbing is very important to the V12 engine as they are the primary oil supply system for the hydraulic tappets. These filter units are the Fram C-4. The V12 units have a angled mount that positions the unit upright near the rear of the left cylinder head. Your '41 engine block should have 3 threaded "taps" at the left rear just behind the cylinder block at the junction of the block and the flywheel housing. The top tap ( threaded vertically) is the "feed" that goes to the side of the filter, the center ( horizontal) tap should be plugged. the lower (horizontal) tap is the for the return line (bottom of the filter) and feeds the hydraulic tappet supply galley. The lines should be 5/16" tubing and the oil pressure sending unit should be mounted in a special fitting at the inlet to the filter. The only "restrictor" in the system is a small orifice located in the vertical exit tube within the filter. No mods are required if you use th regular V12 set up...all bolt on. peecher
Scott, this pic may help. The upper pressure line is a bit different from factory but this will approximate the set up. the "angling" of the upper line is necessary to clear the shifting levers.
