ricosan
I've been trying to chase down a bad vibration in my drive line. I've recently had the transmission and drive shaft out and disassembled each and carefully inspected all of the parts. This was performed by a professional mechanic specializing in pre-war cars. While we had the drive shaft out, I had it balanced. It still vibrates. I suspect that it is the u-joints but my mechanic says if the u-joints were bad, it would have shown up when we had it on the balance machine. I've exhausted avenues of possible causes that I can think of and now I just don't know what to do. I've had a hard time locating a u-joint replacement. The replacement part number is (Spicer) SP-3 1/2-5-64. Is it possible to replace these with modern u-joints? Anyone know of a source? It doesn't feel like a wheel imbalance but I had the tires and wheels checked for run-out and balance. Wheels were good with only a slight run-out in the left front and the right rear.ricosan Edited December 14, 2014 by ricosan (see edit history)
