Rubber mats

I am looking for info from anyone that has had any experince with working with rubber. I am attempting to duplicate running board rubbers for my DA Dodge. I know that I can send someone a thousand bucks and he will make them for me but I would prefer to learn a way to do it myself and still have it look outstanding. I have played around a little with a flat piece of rubber and a router and have had excellent results but have not yet really tried to keep a straight line for any length of rubber. Am I going about it right with the router or is there a better way. Their is no company that reproduces the exact same corrugated rubber mat that I know of. One strip being of a 3/8 wide strip and the next being 1/4 and then repeating itself. I have a sample of the original rubber and would like to tackle this and then move onto the interior floorboard which is much more compicated. Any thought would be nice
