The most singular case of the disappearing Caribs?..Dr. Watson?

Was anyone watching eBay today? There was a matching pair of ?56 Caribbeans, one HT and one ragtop both MTV color code. Last I looked the conv was at $10K and the HT was at $7K. An hour later both auctions were closed with an explanation ?the item has been sold to the highest bidder?, tho the reserve was still shown as not met.

I had bookmarked them and went back a few minutes ago and both have disappeared?they are even gone from the ?My eBay? watched items list?.very strange, it?s like they were never there, and I?ve never seen that happen before, even the obvious scams stay there with ?invalid item? or ?no longer exists? when you try to view it??.these totally went ?poof? without a trace.

Strange doings at eBay lately???.

I'll say it's strange. I drove out there today and looked at the convertible. He vowed that he would not end the auction early, but he did say someone wanted them as a pair and wouldn't be interested in either one as a single. I thought he was straight-forward. I guess I'm not a good judge of people. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Interesting indeed. I thought it might be some sort of scam, but I?m guessing someone made him an offer on the pair that he could not refuse. However, that doesn?t explain how the two auctions disappeared without a trace?unless that is a new eBay policy when an auction ends early.

BTW, how were the cars ?up close and personal?? The conv looked like it had a nice original interior.

The original interior wasn't bad. It had a 56 Executive motor with one four-barrel, but he said he had the dual 4-barrel setup with NOS carbs. The rear body mounts in the trunk were rusted out, the bottoms of the front fenders were rusted out. It had some kind of homemade padded dash. No battery so I couldn't check the PB or TL. The motor did turn over by hand so it wasn't frozen. He told me the reserve was $20,000.00 on the convertible. The hardtop was a much more solid car but I didn't look at the interior.

Randy. What was the immediate surrounding area of the cars like????/ Didd they appear to have been setting in the same place for several years???? Any trailors or heavy lifting equipment near by or large storage facilities or ...

Tell us about the surrounding envioronment of the cars and what story did the seller give u????

I'm guessing that if u drove back over there the cars are proboaly gone and so is the seller without a trace.

He had several Packards there including a 55 Caribbean. I think he was a legitimate seller, but got an offer on the pair that was too good to be true.

He purchased the convertible in 1986 and the roster showed the fellow he bought it from was the last owner of record. I doubt there was a conspiracy here. He had his wife there and a friend showed up while I was there.
