Tire load rateing.

Hi Liam,

In a nutshell, get the highest LR you can find in the type of tire you intend to purchase. The general consensus is that 225/75/R15 is about the closest in dimensions to the original equipment tire. There are still bias ply 8.00/8.20x15 wide whites available from Lucas, Coker etc. In current production, usually only Light Truck tires have a load rating (F, G, E etc) that corresponds to the old ?#ply ratings?. IIRC, F is an 8 ply, G a 10 ply, E a 12 ply etc. A ?55 Pat with a tank of fuel and a few passengers probably weighs in around 5000 lbs. As I recall, the average 225/75/15 has a rating of around 1700-1800#.

Cheers,

John
