Red Reatta on Ebay

Guest

Recommended Posts

I just noticed that Folger Automotive here in Charlotte is offering a low mileage convertible on ebay. I am going to try and get over there and check it out tomorrow. Folger is a long time Buick dealership and has serviced Reattas for me for several years. If anyone has interest or wants me to check anything specific let me know via email or this post.
DAVE
------------------
My Topless Reattahttp://hometown.aol.com/drbuch2000/TheReatta.html
[This message has been edited by Dave Buchanan (edited 03-02-2001).]

BTW, I noticed another 90 conv. on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=565619701
Small world: I bought my 89, in 93, from the same place/guy. His wife had driven it since 91.
I can take a look at this car as it is only a few miles away?
I SAW THE SILVER REATTA CONVERTIBLE THAT IS LISTED ON E-BAY LAST WEEKEND. IT IS AS DESCRIBED BY THE OWNER. IT HAD SOME PAINT WORK ON CAR BUT APPEARS TO BE NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. JUST BECAUSE CAR FAX STATES THAT THERE HAS BEEN A FRONT END COLLISION DOES NOT MEAN THE CAR SUSTAINED MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A MINOR BUMP BUT THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT REPORTED TO INSURANCE COMPANY. I KNOW THE DEALER SELLING THIS CAR AND HE WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT A POTENTIAL BUYER HAS TRUTHFULLY.
I HAVE BEEN BIDDING ON THE RED REATTA BUT HAVE SINCE BEEN KNOCKED OUT BUY A HIGHER BID. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF DAVE WOULD LOOK AT THE CAR TO SEE IF IT IS AS DESCRIBED. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE SELLER WAS A BUICK DEALER. SOUNDS LIKE A NICE CAR. IF IT IS, I WILL INCREASE MY BID ON THIS CAR.

Reatta Vice and anyone else that has interest.
I just got back from looking at the Red Reatta Convertible that Folger is offering on ebay. It is a nice car. It was sold new by this dealer to a local couple and just came back on trade in. The car has been in the Charlotte area since new. While I didn't ask to see them, the dealer said he had all reciepts for maintenance. Couldn't see any evidence of any repainting or body damage. It has gray interior and original matching gray pinstripe. It has 10K less miles (30,286) than my car but is not quite as clean as mine. Nothing major...no door dings, etc. It did appear to me that the trunk lid showed slight fading. The dealer had obviously detailed it and some slight overspray of the "blacking" that they use under around the wheel wells was on the car around the wheels. This would be easy to clean off. It has new tires on it. The dealer assumed that they had replaced them due to "flat spots" since the car has set so much without driving. I replaced the original tires on my car last weekend for the same reason. It does not have the optional 16 way seat or the CD player so thta means the original sticker price was $34,995 plus shipping. The car has the original white top. It shows slight wear but is in very good condition.
I did not drive the car since they had it parked under cover and it is raining here today. The car has the original portfolio with the note pad but the pen and flashlight are missing. The Reatta tire guage is still there.
I didn't make them an offer, but they are excited about the e-bay activity. This is the first car that Folger has offered on ebay. The used car manager was excited that he had inquiries "from Florida and Calfornia" on the car.
I think they are expecting far too much from the e-bay listing and they didn't seem too anxious to deal right now. My best guess is that about $17K would have bought the car today but who knows what will happen if someone does not get too wild on ebay. I gave them my phone number and told them to call if they didn't get the reserve price on ebay..I didn't ask what that was but I don't think they would have told me.
Again, the car is nice, reasonably clean, and everything seemed to work...The engine was not as clean as I expected but I am a nut about that so probably not a fair judge.
Hope this helps...It is only 12 miles from my house,so I could make another trip if anyone needs more. I may want to go drive it one evening just for comparison anyway if the weather clears.
DAVE
------------------
My Topless Reattahttp://hometown.aol.com/drbuch2000/TheReatta.html
[This message has been edited by Dave Buchanan (edited 03-03-2001).]

On Ebay, people are always looking for a bargain, so I don't think the car will reach $17k if that's what they're holding out for. I'm predicting that the car hits $13k. I bought my '90 convertible with 34k for only $11k.

DAVE,
THANK YOU FOR THE VERY DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE RED REATTA. I HAD IMAGINED IT WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU DESCRIBED. I GUESSED BY THE WAY FOLGER PUT THE AD ON E-BAY THAT IT WAS THERE FIRST TIME THEY HAD USED THE AUCTION SERVICE. I WILL TRY ANOTHER BID AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
That carsure has a great color combo. Most of the red converts I have seen have the buckskin top/interior. This one looks nice and would be a nice addition to someones collection.

If someone will give me a briefing, retrieving codes-1990, I will check this car for codes? Only familar w/ 88,89.

Wally,
My 90 manual has a full procedure for retrieving the codes but it is quite long. It starts by Turn ingniton swith on. Depress the OFF and TEMP UP Swith on the ECCP simultaneousy and hold them until all dispaly segments light.
Next it says "During Diaagnostic operation all information will be displayed on the Season and Trip Odometer of the IPC unless otherwise noted"!!?? ( I think this means the Temp display and the trip odometer amd some other places sometimes!)...It then goes on and on with various procedures to follow using the buttons on the temp control...I have never done it on this car but I think it is much more complex than the computer screen on your 89 cars..I guess I could scan a couple pages of the procedure and e-mail them to you if you want to check out the Silver one....Let me know...
By the way, I tried to buy that Red Convertible for you on Saturday but I don't think they are in a "dealing" mood yet...Things can change though, especially if we show them the money!
Dave
------------------
My Topless Reattahttp://hometown.aol.com/drbuch2000/TheReatta.html
[This message has been edited by Dave Buchanan (edited 03-05-2001).]

Well, with a day to go the reserve was just met at $16,800. My guess that $17K would have bought it last Saturday is look pretty smart....and it was just a guess....Now I am interested to see what it really goes for!! Someone is about to get a really nice Reatta but is is going to cost them. If this keeps up, I may re-think selling mine, but only if I can find a 91 in the same condition!
------------------
My Topless Reattahttp://hometown.aol.com/drbuch2000/TheReatta.html
