Kipper50
My amp gauge shows a discharge when this truck is shut off. I used a tester and checked both terminals on the back of the gauge, and my light lite up. If my switch is off i should not have any current to my amp gauge right.By the way this is on a Model A pickup. The battery keeps losing charge when it sits. Guest JT
I believe that would be a stuck generator cutout.

Guest De Soto Frank
A good ammeter ("amp gauge") will show continuity...Basically, all that's inside is a copper buss bar that connects the two terminal posts, and a magnet attached to the pointer that deflects depending on how much current is passing throught the buss, and in which direction (charge/discharge).Usually ammeters "either work or they don't".Also check out your stoplight switch; about 20 years ago, I had a "freak" occurence with the stoplight switch on a Ford Falcon: the switch was "shorted" just enough to allow enough current to pass to drain the battery, but not enough to fully light-up the brakelights. It would be okay when the car was driven every day, but if it sat for more than three or four days, it would kill the battery.Good luck!
