Bonanza17d
I renectly purchsed a 1930 4 Dr. sedan Dodge. It runs great and I am in the process of sanding it down to paint.I need some information on replacing the top as it is missing. The wood is in perfect condition and I have the steel frames. What can I use? I was going to put a sheet of sheet metal on it and cover it with vinal or convertable topping. material. I need ideas. Thanks guys. JB-ed
I can speak for 1928-29 in which they stretched "chicken wire" over the wood and then put a rubberized material over that. On the inside went some padding and the headliner. You can get the rubberized material from several suppliers including Model A. Some people now use thin plywood instead of the chicken wire, but that's up to you. There are several general-purpose upholstery and restoration books that tell you more about this. It's more or less the same for all closed cars of the era.
