What Oil For Exposed Valves?

Hi all,

My 1917 Elgin Racer has an open valve train, which needs to be lubricated frequently.

Both the valves and pushrods need oiling, but when I oil the valves, this oil enters the combustion chamber and causes blue smoke.

My questions are;

1. What oil should I use, is there any 'low-smoke' oil available?

2. How often should I oil the valves and rocker arms?

3. How much oil should I place in the valve recesses?
