1966 RIVIERA - Wipers issue

Hi, 

 

I have an issue with my wipers, it only works on speed 2. Nothing happends when speed 1 is selected. Washer is functional. 

 

I remove the button from the dash, and found 2 things that hurts my understanding : 

1)  On the back of the button there is 3 wires, and the electrical continuity is like this : 

Wipers OFF : continuity between ground and output 1. All other no continuity.

Wipers position 1 : Continuity between ground and output 1. All other no continuity.

Wipers position 2 : Continuity between ground and output 2. All other no continuity.

Washer ON : Continuity on output 3. 

 

=> I'm surprised that there is continuity between ground and output 1 while the wipers are off. Is that normal ? 

 

2) I have no potential between ground on the car and output 2 and 3. that looks correct to me. But I do have 12V between Ground on the car and output 1.

=> How is that possible ? 

 

Any idea what could be wrong ?

 

 

Bonus questions : How to remove the wiper arm ? Is there a stetting for the arms to cover more or less of the windshield ? At full speed the arms will collide with the chrome on the windscreen, especially on drive side.
