Guest
This is the 6 cylinder engine that came with my 1938 Plymouth P-6 coupe when I bought it. I found upon inspection that the car did not have it's original 82 horsepower 201 cubic inch engine, rather the engine had been replaced (not surprisingly) at some point in the car's life with a later 95 horsepower 218 cubic inch version. Visually identical externally. The 201 was available approximately 1933-1940 when it was replaced by the 218, approximately 1940-1954. This engine also saw much industrial use (forklifts, etc.) and was available right up until 1960. It will fit many Mopars from the 1930's to the 1950's. I believe the full sized later Chyslers used a physically larger engine, but I think this 218 will fit early Chryslers and most early or late Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and pickup truck applications. I had planned to keep the coupe for quite some time so no expense was spared in the building of this engine. I had the work done locally here by Hi-Tech Automotive Machining. They have done several engines for me in the past and have an excellent reputation. Well, things changed, other cars came and went and through a series of odd events I ended up selling the Plymouth to a fellow who decided he was going to hot rod it so I ended up with my perfectly rebuilt engine and no car to put it in! What I do have is the engine for my 1957 Thunderbird (also freshly rebuilt) sitting on my shop floor as well, which I plan to install next week. The engine has all new pistons, main, rod and cam bearings. Timing set, oil pump, all new valves, keepers and guides installed, block was bored, honed and decked, wrist pins were all re-bushed, cylinder head resurfaced, original cam was reground as were the original lifters. And, importantly, the heat distribution tube was replaced with a new one. This part usually gets overlooked on these flat heads during the rebuild process. All gaskets are included to install intake and exhaust manifolds. Parts and labor cost me $3,661.18 as you can see on the invoice. I'd certainly like to get my money back but I'm also happy to work with the right buyer. Of course shipping would be a bear but I do have an engine hoist to help load it up and local pick up is easiest. Located in Palm Springs, California. Engine number pad is blank for new owner to re-stamp, if your car is registered by its engine number. First pics show the engine un-bagged for photos when I brought it home from the machine shop today. Later pics show all exterior holes sealed and engine back in storage bag. If you can use this engine or have any questions about it, I check here pretty regular but you may reach me faster by e-mail at bythepool@verizon.net Listing will stay up until engine is sold. Guest
I would also consider trading this engine for something interesting, and of similar value.
