So my next step was to assemble the pistons.  I bolted #1 piston to #1 rod with NO rings to check the clearance of the '38 style "domed" piston to the head.  There is room so I was quite relieved.  I checked the ring gaps and they were within spec.  So then moved on to installing the rings.  #4 ring went right on.  The three-part oil ring in the third groove also installed easily.  Then came #2.  The Grant rings are so hard, that when I spread it, it immediately cracked in half!  So, I tried ano
