1937 Buick Century 60 series

I recently took my '37 Century out of storage where it has sat for the last 26 years. After a few hours of work and several more dollars invested I got it running. I put new wires on it and plugs. Cleaned and inspected the points and dist. cap and it seems to start and idle fine. However when I an on a down hill deceleration I am getting a lot of popping thru the exhaust. Any thoughts on the cause? I had the head redone 26 years ago and I'm wondering if it might be a valve problem again but hoping for something less invasive. Thanks in advance for any help
