Guest floivanus
I've got a 36 pontiac straight six that has had one of the main caps broken in two, my question is if the cap can be welded together, or if a machine shop can make a new one for the motor? or am I at a loss and need to find a new motor. Guest Xprefix28truck
You should be able to have a new one made and installed as long as you have the main bearings line boared when finished. Welding would be a bad choice in this case. I personally have never done it on an older motor, but have done it often on small block Chevys. We comonly take 2 bolt main blocks and install new 4 bolt splayed caps and have it line boared. You would have great success I would think. Steve Braverman
There is a shop here in NY called Superweld that claims to be able to weld anything. They are a machine shop that specializes in engines also. I was there on Monday dropping off an engine that cracked due to freezing. I would give them a call.
