[1966 1/2 ?????]

My Dad's 67 Riv was delivered the 2nd week of September 1966, with a 430 in it. They said" There is no break in period on this new engine - drive it anyway you want to." After 3,000 miles from NYC to DC to Moline, IL the engine produced terrific knocks. Local Buick dealer said "It is just break in noise." Local Chevy service manager took top end off, called Buick engine dept. and got this response.

"This is the best news we have heard in three weeks. We have been waiting for an engine to break down - don't do anything more - we will be there tomorrow with a new engine. The next day three Buick test engineers showed up, swapped the engine, and gave normal break in directions. Their comments were - "Now maybe we can get marketing to stop that fool no-break-in campaign. They had rushed the 430 to production, and were using the customers to test the engine!" [Rear main rope seal on a 67 430]

I have been told it is possible to change this seal without droping the transmission. Egge makes a new type of rope seal for this application. Has anyone done this, and does it take a special tool as well? Any instructions/thoughts would be most appreciated.

[How to aim headlamps on a 67 riv]

Ed, Thank you very much. I tried aiming them last night by going back and forth behind the wheel, and checking to see the results. This is significantly more systematic.

[How to aim headlamps on a 67 riv]

Does any one have any advice on aiming replacement halogen headlamps on a 67? My lights seemed aimed too low.

Thanks Dan. Classic Motor world/Classic Buick has mailed the fan clutch, so I will see how it fits when I receive it.

[Advice on fan clutch r/r on 67 Riv]

Is there any advice anyone would want to pass along as I prepare to r/r a fan clucth on my 67? Quite possibly this is the original fan clutch, as we have driven the car 196,000 miles, and I have no record of it being replaced. Thanks, Les
