I'm sure it will be nice when it's finished, I wish I had the skills to tackle something like that. Your Sting-ray bikes brought back fond memories,I had a metallic blue one with a 5 speed. That was my pride and joy back in 1969.

I would like to see him get top dollar, but with the economy the way it is I doubt he will. He bought a new car and I guess the trade in value was around a $1,000 or less I think. During his ownership of the Reatta I don't think he had to put much money into it just routine mantainence. I had it in pretty good shape when he bought it. It's leaking a little anti-freeze now from a freeze plug I believe, nothing major. I don't want any bad feelings between family members and he's a really good young adult. I might see him this weekend and talk to him about it.

Thanks for all the input, some good points were mentioned as far as pricing. I'm still not sure if I'll buy it, I need another car like I need another bill. I might just help him sell it, he's a college student and could use the money for school. They are nice cars and you don't see hardly any on the road anymore.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just going by KBB pricing, when I sold the car I sold it for less money than I had in it. If my nephew sold it on his own I don't think he would get more than 2K for it. At least I now what kind of the shape the car is in as far as work that was done to it. I replaced the struts,brakes,radio/cassette and exhaust when I owned it.

I sold my 90 Reatta to my nephew about 2 years ago and now he's selling it. He has kept the car in really nice shape, it has about 114K miles on it. I was thinking about buying it back. I'm thinking $2,000 is a fair price, I would say it's in good condition and he only put about 7K miles on it. I sold it to him for $3,000 but I had about $3,500 in the car at that time. Any thoughts on this? I really don't need another car, but it is a nice one.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at my nephews Reatta Sunday and he drove it about 80 miles to my house. The antifreeze was full and I didn't notice any leaking so I told him to leave it alone for now. He had a mechanic top it off and I assume do a pressure test and was told a freeze plug was leaking. I hope the mechanic was wrong,if it is leaking it must be very minor,the car was parked for a couple of hours and no sign of anti-freeze on the ground a little oil I noticed but that's another problem. The car looked great,so I was really glad to see he's taking good care of it. He's 17 years old and I sold him the car last winter, and he really likes it.

Thanks for the tip. I forgot about those, I recall using one of those plugs years ago and it did work. That might make things a lot easier.

I appreciate you quick replies and suggestions. I guess I'll have to look at the car and go from there. My sister has more faith in my mechanical abilities than I do,she thinks I can fix anything. She's my younger sister so maybe that's why.

I sold my nephew my 90 Reatta a few months ago. I guess a freeze plug is leaking,I'm not sure which one,the car is about 80 miles from me. How difficult are these to change or could I use something like JB weld to repair? A shop quoted him like $600.00 labor,he's in high school so my sister asked me if I could fix it for him.

Rear struts are a bear to change,I did mine but in hindsight I would pay to have them done. The top nuts are very hard to remove and not much room to work with. The front aren't to bad but make sure you compress the spring enough,I didn't which made reassembly harder.

I've used both and KYB are quite a bit cheaper as far as price, but you get what you pay for. I think the Monroe Sensa-Tracs are a much better shock or strut.

I'm sure he'll take care of it. I heard he's a very responsible driver and when I was his age I took better care of my cars than now, and I had some nice cars. I had a 71 ElCamino with a factory 396CI with a Hurst 4 speed, and I was in high school and the car was only 2 years old at the time. I wish I still had it, at that age I had more energy and cars were a priority then, more so than now.

My brother-in-law grew up there. My sister met him at NIU,my brother-in-law's father owns Johnson's Archetecture firm in Rockford. I believe the band Cheap Trick were from Rockford. If my nephew joins the list his name is Mitch Johnson. I have memories of Rockford when I drove a truck back in the late 70's, I would go to the Rockford newspaper, can't remember the name offhand, and drop off newspaper insert ads.

I just sold my 90 Reatta coupe to my brother-in-law, it's for my 16 year old nephew. His last car died and I mentioned the Reatta to my sister, not sure if they would be interested in it. It's kind of bittersweet but I know he will take care of it, he's a responsible kid. The car looked really nice pulling out of the driveway all cleaned up. I'll still keep a watch on the list because who knows maybe I'll buy another one. The car will be moving to Loves Park,IL a suburb of Rockford. Thanks for all the help on this list and I think my nephew will be joining it too.

I was going to get a quote from Geico and they wanted my S.S.#, I guess they do a credit check to see if you're a responsible person. That turned me off, so I stood with Allstate and have been very pleased so far for the last 15 years or so. I just have liability on the Reatta so it's pretty reasonable.

I have a 90 coupe and mine don't seem to lock either, but maybe under hard brakeing they would. I thought they same thing as you,what good are they?

If it is a head gasket your anti-freeze would be low and your oil would have anti-freeze in it. I would check both the oil and anti-freeze levels. I would think too you would see steam coming from the engine compartment area.
