What *other* GM vehicles shared spindles with the Olds in 1955?
Thank you!

Ok first off I have a 1955 Olds Starfire 98. I want to convert to disc brakes all the way around. I can't find anyone that sells disc brake conversion kits for this vehicle.
Sooo, I am wondering which other GM vehicles shared spindles with the Olds Ninety-Eight in 1955. Does anyone know?
Thanks so much!

Hello,
I'm looking for a complete power antenna assembly. I have the wiring, but someone replaced the motor and all for a fixed antenna.
Let me know what you have.
Thanks,

Coker also recommends the 235/75-15 for the 800-15 wheel.

The best plate I've ever seen is in this video:

"EIGHTS" standing for consistent 8 second quarter mile times. This is a street legal all-wheel-drive DSM with a 2 liter engine.

I live in Aurora Colorado. I would highly suggest you contact "Level One Restoration" in Golden Colorado. His cell number is 303 590 4612. If you want quality work on ANY car he's the guy. He's done alot of cars that have won national 1st place's at big shows. I have a 64 GTO that has won many awards nationally and 3 major magazine and book publications. Plus if you need parts he can usually hook you up. His name is Gary Riley. Tell him Brian sent you. Good Luck!

Thanks for the recommendation Brian! I appreciate the help.

Beautiful car Ron!

I've searched and searched for this with no luck.
Can anyone tell me what the replacement is for GM #11 brake fluid?
Can I use any modern brake fluid?
Thank you for the help,
Craig

I'll contact Coker directly and then post what they suggest so that others may know as well.

Yeah the factory service manual for this car is actually very poor in it's descriptions and diagrams. I have a few additional books for this particular vehicle, but have found none to be helpful as far as wiring specifics.
Thanks for the responses.

Great! Thanks for the referral.

OK how about these questions:
Would it be better to get a larger sidewall like in the 215/75R15 or the shorter sidewall of the 215/70R15?
Also, do you think I'll have any problems using radials on wheels that were originally for poly tires?
Thanks!!

Yeah I don't know what to tell you on this. I have searched hard for a wiring diagram for the '55 with no luck.
I think it may just come down to deductive reasoning with a voltage meter...
I'm in the same situation as you. Let me know if you want to bounce ideas around as far as wire colors and locations. I have a '55 Starfire 98.
Good luck!

Hello,
I live in Denver and need some nearby shop recommendations;
-a body shop to push out one dent
-a shop to install the fabric on a convertible top
-a shop to install a windshield in a '55 Starfire
Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello,
I'm in need of some whitewall radial tires for my '55 Olds Starfire Conv. The repair manual says the wheels are 15"x5.5" and the tire size is 8.00x15.
I've looked at Coker Tire and found the BF Goodrich Silverton Radials.
http://www.coker.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=255
When looking at the sizes, it seems like I need 215/75R15 or 205/75R15 or 215/70R15. Is this right? These seem like quite a lot of tire for a 5.5" wide rim.
Any experience here?
Thanks, Craig

Thank you Bob!
I'll check the window track more carefully.

Hi there,
I'm having trouble tracking down the problem with one of my rear power windows on a '55 Starfire. They're the type that pivot backwards. The window track seems to be in good shape. The motor moves the window slightly.
I am wondering if there is a limiting stop in the motor that may be misadjusted. I see one screw with a securing nut on the motor that could serve this purpose.
Any input?
Thank you,
Craig

Hello,
I am repairing my '55 Starfire hydraulic top and am wondering how the electric pull/push switch works. How did it work stock? When you pull the switch is the top supposed to retract into the open air mode and a push of the switch brings the top back up?
Thanks,
-Craig

1955 Oldsmobile Starfire 98. Red and white convertible.

Thanks for the info.
I'll adjust the linkage as you described.
I'm not racing anyone in this car. I have a secret weapon for that...

Hello,
Sorry for the new guy question here. I'm new to pre-70s cars and am not sure how things from the 50s <should> operate.
I have a Hydramatic tranny in a 1955 Olds Starfire 98. When the gas pedal is slammed to the floor the tranny does not shift to the next lowest gear. Should it downshift?
Also, it shifts up to fourth very quickly, by maybe 25mph with little throttle input. With the pedal to the floor the shifts are further apart, but it still seems like they could be drawn out a bit more for maximum power.
Should a '55 Hydramatic drive similar to a more modern tranny?
Thank you, Craig
-
Thanks for all of the input. I'm looking forward to changing all the fluids in this tank.

Hello!
I have a '55 Hydra-matic transmission. I want to change the fluid, but all the shop manual says is to use "GM Hydramatic fluid."
With today's options as far as fluids, what Dextron rating should I use? Do you think I can use synthetic?
Thank you!

Please let me know if you have some rear brake drums for sale that will fit a 1955 Olds Starfire 98. If they're used, I need some that can be turned.
Thanks,
