  1. Hi, I need new ball joints and control arm bushings for my 64 J-1, when looking for these parts would '64 starfire parts work??, most of the time at the parts house there is no listing for my J-1 for almost any part i'm trying to find, it sure gets frustrating!!,,,,,,,, thanks for your time.......

  2. Thanks again Glenn for the infomation, i sort of thought the J-1 and starfire were the same brake parts, i have a new master cylinder(with the bail) and had the power booster rebuilt,, just need to put new shoes on it,,, in about an hour i'm going to pick the J-1 up from the paint shop, got a peek at it this morning, looks beautiful!,,, appreciate all your help..............

  3. Hey, i'm wondering about the brakes on my J-1, the rear wheel cylinders are leaking and need replacing plus new shoes, at the parts house in town they only list '64 starfire brake parts, just wondering if i can use the starfire parts on my J-1,,,,, most of the parts houses here don't even list the J-1, just wondering if the parts are interchangable,,,, also i couldn't find any listings for front wheel cylinders, can i use the rear parts on the front??,,,, appreciate your time,,,,,,, thanks.......... tongue.gif

  4. Thanks rocketraider,, i don't have an account at ebay and really don't want to mess with ebay,,,, but i just this afternoon found the site of edwards after i posted, i've emailed him to see if he has one in stock,,, the filter i took off has 39,000 miles on it and looks in pretty good shape, i was thinking maybe i can re-use it??,,, i only took the trans. apart because the pan was leaking,,,it shifted fine,,,, i guess i'll wait to hear from edwards before putting it together,,,,, thanks again rocketraider.........

  5. i'm having trouble finding a pan gasket and filter for the trans. in my '64 jetstar 1,, i believe it's a "slim Jim" rotormatic 3 speed auto,,, the parts house called a supplier and said the parts are discountinued,,, i've looked online can't find anything,,,, anyone have an idea where i can find the parts, i have some cork to make a gasket but i'd really like to put a new filter back in,,,,, thanks........

  6. That would be fun running with a mustang,,, it really is kind of amazing how quick this big car is,,, didn't have it on the road 10 mins. and heard my first "SLOW DOWN!",,, i need to keep my foot out of it i guess,,, if your coming down Daytona for the spring fling show and swap meet at the track (Mar.18-20) stop by the rod repair shop, our club runs it and i'll be there everyday with the J-1,, thanks again rocketraider for all your help........

  7. THANKS again rocketraider, we were just wondering, and hoping we wouldn't have to take the intake intake apart,, there's no leaks so guess i'm OK,,, the J-1 is running great, and just "floats" down the road!,,, best car I ever drove,,,,,,,

    thanks.......

  8. I just got my '64 J-1 back together and running, and i just remembered a outlet(vacumn??) on the very bottom of the intake, almost in the very center, i don't remember disconnecting a hose from it,,, the only way to get to the outlet is to remove the intake,,, tried taking the distribirtor out, still can't reach the outlet,,,does there need to be a hose on it,, any thoughts on this would be appreciated,,,, thanks........

  9. Thanks!, i love the car, don't think i'll ever sell it,,, having the heads done, the gasket was bad on one side and a very badly stuck valve on the other side,, i found it in a barn in Indana, it sat there for the better part of 17 years, the car only has 39k miles, and by the look of the cylinder walls that 39k is orignal miles,, no ridges on walls, and under the vally pan was spotless, i think i really lucked out on this car!, the people i bought it from only put 4,000 miles on it from '87 till '04,,,should have it on the road in a couple of months,,, thanks again........

  11. I have the head off my J-1, found some stuck values, the guy that is helping me is a retired mech., he's been building motors for 60 years and he swears the motor looks like a cadillac motor,, the motor is suppose to be a 394, is there any possibility they used cadillac motors in the '64 jetstar 1??,,, i found this # 585786-4 on the top of the block behind the distribitor, and the # J512004S on the head,,, just trying to figure out if this is a 394ci or not,, also the bore is 4 1/4 in., if that helps,, why i have a question about the engine is the plugs we got from the parts house, that said they were stock, when we ran then earlier in the motor, after 50 miles they were all pretty much fouled out,, not hot enough plug i guess?,, one more question is about 1/4in. travel in the cam front to back normal?? hope you all have a very happy holiday,,, thanks again for the help!........

  12. Thanks for the web site rocketraider, it has most everything i will need,, the motor has one and maybe more dead cylinders, taking the heads off Mon., hopefully it will "only" need a valuve job, so i want to paint the engine while it's apart,,the inside and outside trim on this car are spotless, not a ding or dent anywhere, just need to have the rear bumper re-done, i really lucked out with the stainless,,,, thanks again......

  13. Thanks again Rocketraider, paint tab was right where you said, i really appreciate all the help you've been,,, I think it's a good looking car too!, I've never seen a back window like the one in the J-1, it curves plus it looks like it's concave, really like that look,,i bet it's a hard window to find if i were ever to need another one,,,,, thanks again and happy holidays........

  14. Thanks for the heads up on the resonators, i'm going to print out your post and take it with me,,, the mufflers in the back are pretty much shot, and the right side pipe was ripped out of the manifold during shipment,it looks pretty well rusty,, i'll know more when we get it on the lift,,, thanks again for you advice, it's greatly appreciated,,,, a little off the subject but i just spent all 4 days over the turkey rod run in daytona, on fri. and sat. there were 10,000 cars, i walked the show for 4 hours both days and didn't see one J-1,, are they a scarce car?, or is it nobody wants them?,,,,,,,, thanks again....

  15. Thanks Rocketraider, i need to run it awhile to see if it pings or not, haven't got it on the road yet, waiting on an insurance card,, and i've been told by others about the octane issue, i guess I will be making potions up too at the gas pump,,,, it smokes a little, i'll see if that gets any better after it's on the road,, most likely will need valve seals like you said,,, also need to put exaust on it, both sides, still has the original,,, thanks for the advice, i will be back.......

  16. Should I add a lead additive to the fuel for my '64 Olds?, the engine is a 394ci., i know in '64 they had leaded fuel, I run lead in my '40 chevy, seems to run fine,,, talking to guys in the club, some say do add lead some say don't, and others say it doesn't matter??,, anyone's opinion on this would greatly appreciated,,,,,,,, thanks........
