  1. Has anybody researched the interior colors for the '53 Olds to make modern equivalents? I am unsure of what the color of the dash was in the Super 88 Convertible we are restoring.

I find some green metallic on the steering column, but the dash is more of a silver/gray metallic, and the color under the trim of the dash is more greenish/yellow than the exposed areas of the dash. So... I'm all confused.

Got several pictures of the painted body in our paint booth. Pictures are kinda cramped, but Royal Marine is my newest favorite color! Hopefully, the link works!

  2. Hey, Tim

Ever get any response on this one?

Installing quarter panels isn't too bad, but you need some specialized tools and skills to get it done in a nice manner.

Depending on tools and skills, the available panels like Year One has can be installed with a MIG, or TIG, butt welded, or lapped. I guess they can be glued in, but I don't have any experience with that.

So, get back to me on tools and skills, and I can maybe help walk you through it, if you still are looking for help.

  3. Hi;

I'm hoping to find someone that can decode the body plate on the '53 Olds Convertible we are restoring. Can someone either point me in the right direction, or tell me the meaning of the codes?

    vin: 538M22720

OK, common sense tells me that "53" is the year model, of course, and "8" is for a Model 88. M is... the assembly plant?, and then the rest of the numbers are sequential build numbers for that plant. Am I right?

    the body tag has

    STYLE 53-36670X

    BODY NO. L 471

    TRIM NO 39

    PAINT NO 70

    TOP BLK. ACC. K2-K3

I know the paint to be Royal Marine, and figure the car must have had a black convertible top. Details for the Style No and Trim code, I don't have info for, or the accessory codes. The car is equipped with power top, power windows, power seat, and autronic eye, all of which I'm told is a little uncommon for an "88"

Any help on the details, would be greatly appreciated.

    Tim
