  5. Hi everybody

My Name is Bjoern and i Live in Denmark

This is the story of my Buick

i had the car in 8 years now ,it all started with

i decided that i wanted to find my self a Buick, i had a

1955 Ford before but thats another story, i studied the books

and decided that a 1952 Roadmaster 2 dr ht was just the car i wanted

i always liked the late fourtys early fiftes , and importent

the last year with straight eight, and many times i have regretet that choise

i made, the parts for the straight is expensive and hard to find

i contacted a person here in Denmark , who imported Cars from USA

and tolled him that i wanted a car like that , and the answer was

that is not an easy car to find, but he had knowledge of one here in

Denmark , and it was for sale , but there was a thing about that car

the engine dident work, because the owner had forgotten to put anti freeze

liuqed on the car wen it was stored for the winter

the engine block was cracked and useles

but i bought the car anyway , how hard could it be to find a engine

i joined the BCA and one day there was a add in the Bugle, NOS engine block

for a 52 Roadmaster for sale,i bought that and had it shipped over here

and for a couple of years i dident had the time or money to spend on the

Buick ,small kids, building on the house /garage,busy at work i think

most of you know what im talking about

but a couple of years ago things started to ligtning up i had tim to work

on the buick again , but it shouldent be easy , i found out that the crank

and camshaft i had from the eksisting engine ,was in bad shape the cam

was bended as a bow and the crank had rust on the bearing surfaces

for a time i was looking for a complete running engine but i couldent

find anything unless i wanted to buy a complete car and that wasent on the

budget ,then one day i came in contact with a Buick owner i sweden

and he tolled me that he had a spare engine from a 52 Roadmaster

it hasent been driving for many years but it was complete

but it wasent for sale, after 3 months me begging him to sell it to me

he gave up, i think he got tired of me

so i drove to sweden and brought home my engine

so putting together the best pieces from these 3 engines made one

    complete engine

i have been working on the car all winter and her sunday 30 januar

i was ready to connect the battery a turn the starter on

and finally it runs and it runs good

i was out taking it for a little drive, the transmission worked fine

    and everything is okay,

there is still a lot of work to do on that car, but the importent thing is

    the engine runs

i hope you all enjoyed this little story even

there is a lot of spelling mistakes

    Have a nice Buick day

    Best regards

  6. to me it sounds like there is somthing wrong with your ground conections

check that the engine is conected to the frame and that the conections are

clean to metal and tightended also check the battery to frame (negative)

is good , if you are unsure about the conditions of these conections you

better make some new ones and rather one to many than one to little

its important to clean old paint rust and dirt away to have a proper

    conection, good luck with it

    Bjoern

  7. i would look for a new headlight switch, it could be the problem

if it happens every time you have been driving with the ligts

on for a long time especially with the beam on or if the bulbs

are stronger than the orgrignaly was, the curent could be to high

    for that old headlight switch

    Bjoern

  8. yes special and super came with the small 263 and roadmaster with the big 320

thanks for the offer but hope i got what i need now, on this side of the pond

roadmaster engines isent found esaly ,and if you are looking for an exat year

isent getting it easyer , what year is the car you are going to use it for

    Bjoern

  9. if the engine number is between 4999881 and 52220971 its from a 1948

the last digit tells you what series its from 4=Special 5=Super And

    7=Roadmaster

if its from a Roadmaster its worth saving special and supers can still be found

but a roadmaster engine is getting hard to find bellive mee i know it

what car should you use it for

good luck with the straight eight

    best regards Bjoern

  10. thanks both for your opinions

im not very expericended in rebuilding engines so maybe i should

find a machine shop to do the camshaft for me dont want to ruin

anything ,and thanks for the trick about the oil pump

its important to have the bearings lubricated as soon as possible

more tricks like that would be apricated

    Bjorn

  11. thanks Patrick

the reason why the bearings should be changed is that, i have bought a NOS engine block and there is new bearings installed, but is says in the shop manual

that bearings must be line reamed to fit the camshaft, and it is of my knowlegde

if i bought new replacement bearings, it would not be neassary line ream them

because the accucary of the replacement bearings are better, do you know if that is true , have you reamed your bearings when you installed them , where they replacement or Nos Bearings .

anyone feel free to give some comments about this

    thanks Bjorn
