I bought a box of stuff at a garage sale because I wanted the multi-meters in the box. When I got home and started looking through the rest of the stuff in the box I found this tool. I didn't know how it was used. When you squeeze the handles together like a pair of pliers the four prongs extend outward to form a larger square.
Eventually I used it to expand a rubber grommet to make it easier to feed wiring harness bundles through the grommet for the firewall. It worked great!
When I finally learned how the tool is used, it turned out I was kind of accidentally using it as the designer intended. But if you use it exactly as intended it is probably painful.

Years ago I could not find a small bracket for my Corvette. I went upstairs, sat down with a cup of coffee and told my wife I will not find the bracket until I order a new one. Sure enough. I went on the computer and ordered the new bracket, finished my coffee and went downstairs to the shop and nearly stumbled over the one I was looking for.

Here in the state of Washington we must pay a "use" tax on the purchase of a used car. The tax rate is equal to the sales tax rate in the jurisdiction where you live. In my county it is 9.1%. When you tell the clerk what you paid for the car they look it up in some kind of price guide. If they think you are trying to pay less tax by lying about the purchase price, they charge you tax on what they think the value of the car should be.
I bought a 1971 Mustang new late in 1971. I later traded it for a '56 Thunderbird. In 1982 I was looking for a '71 to '73 Mustang fastback like my old one and couldn't find one. So I traced the ownership and bought my old '71 back. I paid tax on it twice.

When I turned 16 in 1963 my dad said I could have my choice of a '55 Pontiac 2dr hardtop or a '32 Ford 5-window with a Plymouth V-8. I chose the Duece. In June of 1975 I was on disability from a work injury and sold the '32 and my '58 Corvette. I was flush with money for a while but it was not worth the regrets.

I bought a car without inspecting it once. It turned out to be just as the seller described. But I'm still gunshy about long distance transactions. Mailing or wiring thousands of dollars to a stranger just makes me cringe. If the Edsel was a few hours away so I could inspect it and meet the seller face to face, I would consider it. The photos sure look nice.

In 1964 I was 17 years old when my dad told me about a cook at the local greasy spoon who had a 1950 Ford 4dr for sale for $15. It was missing a battery. I bought the car and bought a used battery for $2 and drove the car home. I sold it a few days later for what must have been around $23 (I forget the exact amount). I thought I was a genius.

My apologies. That Henry J windshield center post is actually a 3-piece part. It has the inside trim piece, the outside trim piece and the slide-in insert with the threaded posts for the machine screws inserted from the interior of the car.

As it turns out these fit a 1950 Oldsmobile 4dr sedan. I don't know if they fit a 2dr. Not very much in demand, obviously. But I cannot throw them into the recycle bin--it is just not in me.

Hey, Jimkf, I hope you see this. Yes, I am interested in the Henry J center piece for the windshield. My rear view mirror is bolted to the body above the windshield with what appears to be a jamb nut. Let me know if you want to sell the HJ windshield center piece and how much you want for it. You are in NE Ohio and I am fifty mile the other side of Seattle WA.

I am looking for a center windshield post for my 1952 Henry J. It has been over twenty years since I removed the old one and now I am trying to find it. I believe it is a 2-piece part--the exterior stainless piece and the interior half.

It is similar to a Ferrari replica made by Kelmark. I think they were in Michigan.

I found these in the trunk of a 1969 Camaro I bought in the early 1990's. They are not for a Camaro. Does anyone know what they fit?
