Nice looking pickup project! Such altered specialty vehicles are rather popular right now. They were a very important part of automotive history, and reflect the ingenuity and resilience of an important bygone era. Does your father plan on doing a full restoration? Or keeping it mostly "as found" but getting it running and roadworthy? Either way has merit.
He clearly needs more than just the distributor cap! The distributor body was made from a material commonly called "pot metal" which in that era all too often had non-compatible contaminants mixed in and often self destructs with age. There is no repairing that. So either a better one like it or a compatible replacement will need to be found. Another possibility is to adapt another six cylinder distributor to fit in the Hudson's original mountings. In which case, the cap he will need is whatever that distributor came from originally. Some 1930s through 1960s Chevrolet distributors are readily available, and fairly easy to modify to fit. They are common, and well made, and tune-up parts readily available. (They are not the best looking option, however not too bad either.)
The car is a Hudson super six. However, the first thing he needs is a decision for replacing the entire distributor.
I had coffee with him this morning for his birthday and we were discussing the carburetor issue and he called a couple of people. This evening I followed up with him and learned that he's traveling next weekend to meet a gentleman to buy more than just a carburetor 🤣 I've invited him to this forum so hopefully he will join in and post his progress as well. I'll definitely update as I find out more about which direction he's going. At dinner we discussed painting and he said he does want to paint it but isn't sure what color. Maybe an olive green and cream, sort of classic colors.

I don’t have a distributor cap for your car , but it looks like you need a distributor as well.
if you watch eBay they seem to show up once and awhile, the later ones are cast iron and don’t deteriorate like the ones made out of pot metal.
I love early Hudson’s and would love to see some pictures of you dads project.
John
Hey John,
Yeah it looks pretty rough 😕 He's had it for about 5 years and hasn't had time to really do much with it but I'm excited that he's starting to make time. My grandfather, his dad, restores old Ford pickups so it's kind of a family thing. Let me know if the picture came through.

Are you sure that is a super six distributor cap? (Looks four cylinder to me? And doesn't appear to fit the distributor?)
I personally don't know but he said its a Super Six for sure.
