Both the Stromberg LB-1 and Zenith HU-4A were listed as original equipment.

While I have several LB-1 parts carbs, I have never seen an HU-4A.

Checked aftermarket cataloges from years 1920~1922 for replacement listings:

    Marvel - nothing

Rayfield - M2V (although why anyone would want to put a Rayfield on any vehicle for which it was not original is beyond me).

    Schebler - nothing

Stromberg - only the LB-1, no superseding carburetor.

Zenith - only the HU-4A, no superseding carburetor.

I suppose an adapter could be designed and fabricated to accomodate something else, but if it were mine I would fix the LB-1. Guessing the zinc alloy parts on your LB-1 will need to be fabricated, but once done, the LB-1 would fit, and be correctly calibrated for the engine.

It is in fact the white metal housing, held by three screws, holding the needle that is broken. The needle is still in the carb but the shoulder that retains the needle is broken.20230927_175800.jpg.d375814c866103b75af499463a08e132.jpg

I  guess there's no other Elgin owners in the forum.. After digesting all the paperwork that came with the car :  The old girl was completely restored including engine rebuild in 2006. It also came with the better part of a spare engine and a bunch of parts. As suggested I dropped the oil pan and it looked great.. Can anyone give me a check list on the restart :  type oil, type antifreeze, fuel system and so on..  Also how to patch a two foot tear in the conv. top.

The car looks brand new underneath. The guy I bought the car from is a super car guy. He has 14 more hot rods and muscle cars. He sold this car due to some family situations.. I can only assume I was able purchase this gem due to the unflattering pictures that were used in the sales ad. Just saying... The car originally belonged to the owner of Kool-Aid and was left to one of his relatives.. The one that restored it.. This was told to me by the seller.  Should I change from 6 to 12 volt... Thanx in advance.. Glenn

I just purchased this car this week and was curious about the connection to the Kool Aid inventor. How did you come by that information?

    Thanks,

  3. Stumbled across this thread today while searching for some information on a Sears Motor Buggy that I have purchased. It was owned by MGM Studio and is supposed to be the Sears driven by Red Skelton in the movie 'Excuse My Dust"  I have owned several antique cars but the oldest was a 1922 Model T Touring and current have a 1931 Ford Model A Slant Window Sedan so this is a whole new thing for me
