[Buick 1927 delco 640a 1928 distributor needed UK]

Hi Chris, I am based in Austria and am restoring a 1925 Standard 6. My distributor is also seized so I have made a 3D model and am looking into having it 3D printed in aluminium. Its not cheap (~€350) but let me know if you're interested, if I get several made the price will come down.

There are a few comments above about cranking the engine with the ignition off until the oil pressure rises. 

I agree, but I always remove the spark plugs first, this reduces the bearing loads and speeds up the pressure rise....

OK, thanks for the feedback Hugh and Larry, I've welded the holes up.

I found these Swedish taxis in some files Lief sent me, doesn't explain the holes, but its a great photo!

I'm in the middle of welding up some rust patches on the scuttle of my 25-25, and I noticed 4 holes on the top which I don't think are original.

Before I weld them up I wanted to check if anybody knows what they might be for.

The car came from Sweden by the way, where I think a lot of Buicks were used for Taxis....

Any ideas?

I am rebuilding my 1925 Standard 6 engine and just fitted a new camshaft with the original timing gears.

The backlash seems pretty high, I measured ~20 thou at the cam gear OD.

I am inclined to accept this and keep building, because of the limited availabilty of new or good used gears (especially here in europe).

Does anyone have any bad experiences with backlash this high

Not sure if this will be any help at all, but I recently measured my 1925 Standard 6 engine as I was changing from original (steel?) pistons to new aluminium.

[1925 (-->28) Buick Standard 6 differential bevel gears]

I'm looking for a pair of bevel gears either 1925 (square drive) without cracks (left in photo) or 1926-28 with splines (right in photo) for my 1925 Standard 6

 

I've been told that almost all squre drive bevel gears have cracks, so I'm quite prepared to upgade to the splined gears, and get new shafts made so I can keep the 1925 hubs and wheels.

If you decide to split the parts, I would be very interested in the rear axle shafts and bevel gears. Please let me know if this is an option and how much you would want for them
