I stumbled on this thread as I was looking to understand the differences between the Continental 15E engine used in the REO Wolverine and the 16E engine used later in the REO Mate.  From the discussion above, the distributors are different.  Do any of you know what other differences there are between the engines?  Thanks.

Hi Bill - now I stumbled on your question. In the process of finalizing the re-build of a 16E but also have a 15E dismantled. The 2 engines are very similar with most parts interchangable. The biggest difference the I have found is that the head is improved with higher compression (smaler chamber) and also different spark pluggs (smaler/more "modern"). Also believe that the 16E has 60Hp while the 15E had 50 - not that this makes any huge difference LOL.  Different distributors on the 2 engines but they are interchangable...

  2. I am the proud owner of a 1927 REO Wolverine open 7-seater originally purchased new by my grandfather in May -28. It was one of 10 identical vehicles that was converted to taxis in Bergen, Norway. I also have a -28 sedan in bad condition that I keep for spares.  I am doing some work on the original Continental 15E engine and wonder if anyone out there has knowledge about if bearings are available from anywhere?
