Guest
Can the Cam Position sensor be replaced without removing the timing cover? Need to do mine, but don't know where to start.
Guest
The sensor itself is held by one bolt on the exterior of the timing cover, just below and to the rear of the water pump pulley, and is relatively easy to replace. Remove the drive belt to allow a better view and access. The magnet is imbedded in the timing sprocket, in a plastic holder. Check to be sure the magnet is actually in place when you remove the sensor by slowly turning the engine over until the magnet lines up with the hole. A mirror will help. If the magnet is missing, that is most likely the problem. Some people have inserted a new magnet by removing the plastic holder and gluing it in with JBWeld. I have never tried this personally so maybe someone else could chime in.
------------------
Hal, btk@vbe.com
Guest
The sensor is cheap and readily available. It should be replaced if a code 41 shows up. There is a procedure in the Service Manual which points out how to check if the CAM signal is getting to the ECM.
Bob Rich
