Guest 4421972
I have a 1952 Super 88 with the 4 speed hydramatic transmission. If I put it in Drive it shifts 1-2 and 2-3, but never goes into 4th gear. If while stopped I put the selector into Low, it shifts 1-2, then when I put it in Super it shifts 2-3 and when I put it in Drive it shifts into 4th. Is this likely a linkage adjustment issue? I have read some about the adjustments. The car shifts too quickly at too low a speed, and the 1-2 shift is soft or mushy. So I think the TV rod needs shortening. Could this be so far off it also is causing the car not to shift into 4th while left in Drive? PS-if anyone knows where I can get a hood spring for this car I sure do need one. I have one, but not two.
Guest 4421972
For reference having spent time adjusting this, moving the TV rod 6 turns on the adjustment did get it to shift properly. It shifts into all 4 gears now, and the shifts are more or less good shifts without slippage or mushiness.
