Guest ronpon
Hi folks, I'm a musician needing a klaxon horn for a live theatre show. I've seen many online for sale but wondered about the battery connections since this application is not with a car. Any recommendations on what to purchase and what type of battery to use? Many thanks.
Guest
"Klaxon" is a brand, there are many other makes of "motor horns". They are all similar sounding but not the same. Anyone with a good ear in the old car hobby could tell you if the horn was on a Studebaker or a Chevrolet or a Ford or whatever just by hearing it.Before the battery powered motor horns there were hand operated ones. One of these might even suit your purpose. An original "Klaxon" horn is 6 volt so any 6 volt battery or three drycells (lantern batteries) in series will do. Simple wiring battery..switch..horn..battery.There are modern/new "Aah-Oo-Ga" (motor horns) available that are 12 volt. Same wiring. We car collectors would probably rather have you use a new horn rather than a vintage one that someone might need a car.
