Guest Fla88Coupe
My 88 coupe is showing ware on the ball joints and I am looking into replacing them. It appears, though, the ball joints are riveted in place between two plates making up the control arm. How is this repair typically done?I can purchase replacement parts that are bolted in place. Will this provide a good result?
Guest EDBSO
You will require 2 sharp drills, one very large hammmer and an extra sharp chisel.Yes replacements are bolt in.Not hard to do but long and having done it myself likely wouldn't do it again unless I had an air chisel.Alignment will be required. Guest Fla88Coupe
The real problem is the outer axle boots...slinging grease. Since I'm in, I thought I'd replace the ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends but was caught by surprise after I cleaned the contol arm off enough to see the rivets holding the ball joint. Thanks for the info. I thought replacing the entire control arm was possibly an option. Should I remove the entire control arm assembly or is it possible to drill the rivets on the car? Guest EDBSO
I did mine on the car with a good jack and stands.
