  1. Hello, I am new to the forum, but not new to the hobby. I grew up around Studebaker's but still need advice from time to time. I have a 1951 Studebaker Land Cruiser that is equipped with a 232 V8. I have it all ready to go except for getting the engine to behave. The engine starts right up and idles great. I can and will tap the accelerator down briefly to disengage the high speed idle. At this point the engine will idle at lower RPMs. I will then proceed to press down on the accelerator and it will proceed to start idling rough followed by stalling. If I am quick at removing my foot from the accelerator it will start back up on its own, it almost seems like I am choking the engine when I push down on the accelerator. When the engine warms up, it seems to not have the choking issue, but it does tend to idle rougher. The accelerator pump is new and I have confirmed that it squirts a healthy stream of fuel at all times. Could this be a timing issue? I do not have the 6 volt equipment to test, and I am not expert enough to do it by "ear". Any help on this issue would be appreciated. Again, I don't claim to know anything regarding fine tuning the carburetor, you may say this is one thing on the car that I never really understood.
