PVRed90 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 The coil ignition (CCCI) module on my 1990 is oozing a gray/light green substance. It appears to coming out at the gasket line line new the forward end of the module or one of the plug wire poles. Can I just tighten the bolts holding the two parts together and see if it stops?
Howard Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 When the green slim starts showing up, it's time to change the spark control unit. I would change both the coil pack and the spark control unit. The green slim is the plastic encapulation inside the spark control unit breaking down. While it may not fail right now, you can expect failure at sometime in the future. Rather than risk the possibility, I would change it now. The parts can be found at most major parts houses.
PVRed90 Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Does anybody have an opinion on the best brand of components to use for this repair? Auto Zone has ACDelco, GP Sorensen, and Borg Warner ignition modules at various prices. They have ACDelco, Accel, Borg Warner & Niehoff ingnition coil packs. Also, I have never done this type of repair. Can they just be replaced without any special equipment or diagnostics? Outside of the information and warnings in section C-3 of the shop manual does anybody have anything further to offer.
