What kind of clutch do i buy for 90 16V TC?

anybody know if the clutch in a 90 TC with the 284 5-spd and the 16V masi headed motor is a standard clutch that I can buy at a auto parts store? if not where?

I couldn't find any more pressure plates (you can use a disc from lots of applications, the Lumina 284 trans for one) but maybe you'll get lucky. In the end lack of clutches is why I swapped trannys...

OK now let's get serious. I almost never replaced a pressure plate unless it was one of those diaphrams or the plate was groved or burned. If someone whipped it to death and overheated it many times then you have to throw it away; but if it was not abused only worn, "it can be made better than new".. A good auto machine shop or speed shop can reface the disc, install new springs. or space the old springs. ste clearances set pressures and make that sucker better than new... Good luck, Lou

Uh, yeah, maybe 30 years ago thats the way they did it <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I walked my pressure plate into three different clutch shops, any guesses as to how many would 'rebuild' it?? Maybe if I kept trying I'd find one to do it but it was easier for me to give up after two months of searching and change out the whole transmission to something with available componants...

3 clutch kits left in the US says Rick D and i got his price. question is, do i trade parts and some cash or skip the clutch. price for a new one, 750$

Hmm, price of a 523 trans $100. clutch for it $175, price of an OBX LSD $400. axles misc etc... Kind of the route I went, no regrets

try adding in somebody installing the OBX also, that set up, considering i cant do it and Cliff would have to, add about another 300$. the TC clutch is cheaper. and i have 2 cars, if i part one, i still have a good clutch as a spare. thats my decision maker right there i think

what is involved withthe 523 swap, cables, linkage, wiring? I'd hate to do it. just replaced the clutch back in october '06. rick was the only one with the clutch hence$$$$$$$$! I'm curious, please let me know.

and yeah, my pressure plate was fine, saved it, replaced it, a little rainbow colored but some is normal, flywheel, :/had it milled and works great! man those things grab! also you can try to match it up, good luck! i went through clutch dr.'s inventory-no match, carquest-no match, napa-no match. after exhausting all possibilities-went to rick and bought the whole kit-thanks rick. now if i only had 3rd gear!!!! dont let people drive YOUR TC!!!!
