I just went though getting stuff together for a pair of 1915 plates. I called and the numbers are good. The NYS-DMV states on the mail in form that the the plates must be readable and original. NOT RESTORED! Not sure how well they stick to it though??? I was told by a friend to get the plates though first and then restore them after if you want. Dave!

I buy a nice set of plates at a swap meet. For all I know someone restored them in 1984 - I'm sure the folks at DMV only compare to photos, if even that.

I have a couple of '38 plates here somewhere and seems as though they do read World's Fair on them, but it's been a long time since I looked at them too.

yeah ive actually seen it on several '38s as well as a website i found once that showed NY plates through the years, and 1938 plates have "1939 worlds fair" on them <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> no idea WHY but it sure is there!

and actually i googled it and found this: http://www.worldlicenceplates.com/jpglps/USA_NY_GI3_1930's.jpg
