Fave movie for Buicks?

I've been rattling my brain pan trying to think of cool movies that feature Buicks. The most obvious one to me is Rain Man, featuring the '49 Roadie convertible. There's also the '39 that makes a brief appearance in Casablanca. "A Beautiful Mind" featured some '51's driven by the bad guys. Even one of the Batman movies had some '51's or '52's modified to look sinister. Past that, I'm pretty much stuck. What cool movies can you think of that prominently feature Buicks?

As mentioned in a previous thread, my favorite "Buick" movie...hell, it's my favorite movie, period!...is "Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte" (1964) with Bette Davis, Joseph Cotten, Olivia deHavilland, and Cecil Kellaway. While there isn't a Buick in almost every part of the movie, like "Rain Man", there are two '64 Electra six-window pillared sedans and a '64 Special four-door sedan featured pretty prominently. I never get tired of watching the movie. I think it's the best ending ever committed to film! For some reason, the Internet Movie Database doesn't list this film's cars.

Rats! I was going to mention "Hush, hush" but you beat me to it!

Don't forget to include TV shows; by many in Hollywood, they are considered motion pictures, just made for a smaller screen.

The TV show "In the Heat of the Night" featured Caroll O'Connor riding around in a '95 or '96 Ultra as his patrol car. And of course, speaking of patrol cars, don't forget Broderick Crawford in his '55 Buick Special in "Highway Patrol." Here's a link to a good article about that car:

Lately, I've seen several Buick Lacrosse and Lucerne models in the A&E series "Monk." I wish Buick were making more cars considered exciting enough to be in more movies and TV shows; nowdays, you are likely to see someone moving up out of their Buick into a more exciting car. Sad......

My car was used in "A Perfect World" with Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner. When Costner is trying to steal a car in the first twenty minutes of the film, his partner is looking in the window of my car. Costner says "Steal that Buick" and the other guy says "I don't want a Buick, I want a Ford".

I went to the premiere at a big old movie theater in Austin, and I kept my eyes peeled for it in the street scenes, little did I know it was going to be all alone on the screen with some dude looking in the window. I nearly jumped up and started yelling "That's my car!".

Philippe, There were many Gopher state members vehicles in "Crossing the bridge" The Yellow 67 Toronado is mine and my brother's 67 Camaro is across the street and 2 cars back. It was fun looking at the pictures and remembering the cars members had way back when. Note: the 63 LeSabre is actually an Electra. The actor is blocking the rear of the car so you can't see the tail, so we'll let that one slide <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Many of the Perry Mason episodes from about 1958-1961 contain Buicks, along with other makes.

Also, if you watch the original 1973 version of "Gone in 60 Seconds," you'll be surprised how many Buicks, mostly ranging from 1961-1973 can be seen driving or parked throughout the film. A 1961 Buick LeSabre gets smashed up, along with a bunch of other cars, including a brand new 1973 Cadillac parked in front of a Cadillac dealership. The famous chase scene from this movie, one of the best in Hollywood films, actually drives through the property of a local Buick dealership, Butler Buick, in Long Beach, California (correct me if I'm wrong on the city). No Buicks get damaged at the dealer. You can see brand new '73 Buicks, along with used models in this scene! One of my favorite scenes in this same movie is the chase scene INSIDE a large Cadillac dealership!

Yeah...a Skylark is what a Vette would look like if the Vette had some style.

I dont know if you can call it a movie.... I dont think its a movie till someone actually shows it somewhere. But last fall my Limited and my wifes Skylark were both used as background cars for a movie called "Mysteries of Pittsburgh" so that would probably be my favorite "Buick movie". But then again my opinion might be just a little biased <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have this other picture showing the 1963 Electra (and this one is barely showing the mouldings on the lower rear quarters), I'll ask for a correction on the IMCDB website!

Is this yours too? I guess this scene wasn't really filmed in Canada as it's supposed to...

Most of the Canada scenes were filmed in Northest Minneapolis. The Hennepin Bridge stood in for the Ambassador in Detroit, they just changed the signs on the set for the Canadian/American border crossing.

Yep, That is it again, The director seemed to like the car. The gas station is in Minnetonka,MN. We were told that the film crew was afraid to film in Detroit because of the crime there and only filmed the car on the bridge in a matter of hours, otherwise all the shots are of Minnesota.

In the movie "Sugarland Express" (1974) there is a nice car chase with a 1956 Roadmaster.

This is such a cool movie. Lots of old cars and trucks (back when they were new!) and airplanes, too. The B-36's are just awesome bombers.

The Buick Special 4dr in Strategic Air Command is the Base General's car, driven by a Sergeant. You get to see it a lot in the movie. The movie has great outside and inside shots of the car. You get to see it approach and stop in front of the camera and drive away from the camera several times, complete with sound. I really like it because it looks a lot like my '52 (but mine's a 2dr sedan) and because it also has the 3spd manual transmission, just like mine.

The Air Force Blue painted car has no side trim other than the three Ventiports, and has Air Force markings in yellow on the front doors.

I got to thinking about it after seeing the movie. It's about the Strategic Air Command of the early 1950's, which was the long range bombing part of the U.S. Air Force, right? So was it only accidental that the Air Force bomber guys drove around in "bombsight" Buicks? That's funny!

That was one of my favorite series.......also it was a Century he drove. Then he went to a '56, '57 and it ended with a '58 Buick Century. Then the show continued on with Dodges.

The Birds featured a '55 Century. The God Father had some Buicks in it. Another series that only lasted a couple of years was Rescue 8. The star always had his '58 Buick wagon parked out front of the rescue house.

My fave is 1942's <span style="font-style: italic">In This Our Life</span>, with Bette Davis and Olivia DeHavilland, who play sisters in love with the same men. A "woman's movie" for WWII audiences, it features a wide range of Buicks from '39 taxis and cop cars to a 41 Roadmaster convert in which Bette races around Richmond.

Great crash at the end, and if you pay attention, you'll note it's not a Buick that goes up in flames.

<span style="font-style: italic">Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte</span> runs a close second, as I have a car that's nearly identical to the one they use in the closing scenes.

Just watched the Alfred Hitchcock classic "Vertigo" last night on AMC with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. And, there were several Buicks in the AH movie "The Birds" that AMC ran on Monday night.

During the scenes where he is following her through downtown San Fran, lots of Buicks of various models and colors..... Of course, Jimmy is driving a DeSoto, but the Buicks are prominent and recognizable.

Hey, haven't we been talking about Buick making cars with STYLE again in other forums????

The Road to Perdition, Tom Hanks drives a 1931 Buick right through the movie, even teaches his young son how to drive it.

Mulholland Falls has a 1951 Buick convertible used by Nick Nolte and his crew, great cop movie, just can't work out how all 4 cops drive around all day and night in a convertible and none of their hats blow off.

I remember "The Birds" when the guy lights a smoke and tosses his match, a 55 blows up. That's one of earliest memorable Buick specific scenes.

I recall seeing that Tom Hanks Buick for sale on ebay. I believe it had an entirely altered drivetrain, including auto trans.

Does anybody remember the title of the Burt Reynolds movie with the orange and white 55? They raged that car fer sure.

Im pretty sure the movie your looking for is called "W.W. and the dixie dance kings".About a road act and their manager who are chased through the south by an evangelical preacher. But I thought the Buick was black and gold not orange and white. Who knows its been years since Ive seen that movie.

That was an Olds in the Burt Reynolds movie. I think it was called a Holiday 88 Special.

Another Buick that came to mind recently; the real estate agent in the TV show "Monk" played by Sharon Lawrence drove a new Buick Lacrosse. That episode aired earlier this summer.

I know its not a movie but what about Buicks in music videos? I remember the Go Gos song "Our Lips Are Sealed" The video featured the girls riding around in, if I'm correct, a 1960 LeSabre convertible. My dad had a 60 LeSabre sedan so I've always liked the video. No matter what you think of the Go Gos the car is great!!!
