Does anyone know of a site where I can verify using the engine number that a car was manufactured as a certain model year? Thank you!

Which "engine number" would you be using? The block casting number? A "stamp code" on the block? A casting date on the block? What brand (just to make sure what you have) and model year of vehicle are you concerned with?

In the realm of "GM", a particular block casting number could be used for several years, but the casting date code on the block would be a determining factor in many cases. The blocks would be cast prior to their machining and assembly for a particular vehicle, which you might already know, but it's the machining operations and internal parts which would define the block's end use. In some cases, the casting date can preceed the engine machining date by six months, but this is not a firm rule as such. It would be the "stamp codes" which would define the particular vehicle the engine was installed into at the factory, or if it might be a factory replacement block/engine.

Therefore, the block casting numbers would get you to the ballpark, but the stamp codes would tell you where your reserved seats might be. The stamp code defines the CID, model year, model useage, power level (with related carburetion and such, sometimes), and possibly transmission useage. For example, a "DZ" code on a Chevy small block engine defines that 4.00" bore block as a Z-28 item, but without that stamping (if the block was "decked", it surfaces over where the block's stamp codes are) it's just another 4.00" Chevy small block V-8.

Just some thoughts,

Other things which can be engine and model and model year specific would be numbers on distributors and carburetors . . . if they are still with the engine and have not been "swapped" for some reason or another.
