DAVES89
What parts should I stock to keep my car running? We all know that parts have/will become scarce. What parts [common only to Reatta] should I get so that I will be able to keep my Reatta running? I am not looking to buy a parts car, just want to have needed parts. The posts about the accumulater being discontinued got me thinking. Any ideas/opinions? Or do we continue to depend on Jim?

DAVES89
Maybe I should buy a parts car. All those electronics, ballpark price[for all]?
Guest TommyH
cheaper to get a parts car (SHOCK AN AWE AT THE PRICE)
Jim
My thoughts would be to pick up an IPC or a touch screen if a person could get them cheap. The only other parts to maybe get, again if you can find some cheap ones, would be the outside mirrors and vent windows because it is very easy to catch one on your garage wall when backing out. I came close twice this week. The most common part to go bad in the '88-89s is the CRT and the most common part in the '90-91s is the IPC. Other than those you are probably going to have a bunch of parts sitting around and your money tied up in items on the shelf.Right now, and I think for a few years, the parts are quite plentiful because the cars are pretty old and showing up in a lot of salvage yards and private parties selling on Ebay. Yesterday I was upside down and twisted under a dash taking something out and I thought of my friends Jim Wright DMN and Nic who have a little trouble getting into these positions and I thought how lucky I am to be still able to do this. Most likely as long as I am able I will continue. I have too many parts to quit now anyway and I am leaving tomorrow for Michigan to pick up another parts car. Guest tomt
Maybe the best bet to keep parts available then, would be to keep Jim stocked up with Aleve.

DAVES89
I'm wondering the 5 most needed parts that are NOT interchangable with any other car. In other words common to the Reatta only. I would also include the Acumulater. Any opinions[other then the touch screen and ipc]?
Guest mongeonman
The left and right door wirering harnes, because of the electrical switches and contacts they include.Electro-luminescent inverters and console electro-luminescent plate, windsheild, hubcaps. If you can you should get a parts car, would be almost cheaper than buying all parts you need. Jim
Lots of cars used the Teves accumulator. Many large Buicks, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, some Chryslers and a few foreign makes. Finding a good one that will take more that 4 pumps without the red light coming on is the hard part.
TheBlackMoon
Not to mention the fact that the Teves Accumulator can still be bought brand new for less than $200. Also, IPC's are the same for a whole line of GM's. I haven't had probs finding them at the local yard, at all. Of course, wait til I actually NEED one!I'd suggest the windows (back, front, vent, and passenger side are no longer made and are ridiculous $$$ to recast), or, if you have the space, a parts car. Headlamp motors are also a good stock (though Barney and others have solutions for rebuilding them now, it's good to have a spare). I'd also suggest stocking up on the plastic studs used on the doors. They're not just used for the doors and have been discontinued by GM. NO OTHER CAR has them, according to the parts guy. They all use the shorter ones now, which we cannot.I've been having the hardest darn time with the hard plastic trim under panels and about the car. Keep breaking apart (aka crumbling) on me and I keep having to buy replacements! Could be the weather, or maybe I should stop .... with them.
