wmgotthardt Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Hello...I am posting on behalf of a friend who is interested in the possible sale of the following vehicle. It has been owned by a single family throughout it's history. I am hoping to find out here whether a market even exists, and if so, what specific vehicle information is needed/desired from potential buyers. In the near future I will have access to several photos of the vehicle, both current & historical. Really any help/guidance would be most appreciated...Thanks.1928 DodgeOriginally purchased late in 1927 Four Cylinder 128 SeriesFour door, first standard shiftTwo wheel brakesWood spoke wheels, 19 inch split rimsSealed beam headlights (had to get them to drive it) -but have originalsLast registered in 1961-in storage-location is Nanty Glo, PA
nearchoclatetown Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 A picture would tell a lot of info. Thanks.
wmgotthardt Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Thanks...yeah I have requested photos from the owner (my friend's mother) and will post as soon as I receive them.

nearchoclatetown Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 What a nice piece of history.Have you tried to get it running? My "guess" would be in the $3000-$7000 range depending on if it ran or not. I know that's not very specific but there's lots of variables. TO ME it sure would be nice to clean it and drive it, but everyone has an opinion. Maybe you should keep it! There's plenty of room in the DBC and AACA for more members.
wmgotthardt Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 That's very helpful...thank you. I am not the owner, just a friend. We live in CA, and unfortunately the vehicle is stored in PA. Although it's an emotional possession for her (father passed it down), she realizes there is no realistic chance to get it to the west coast, so she feels it may be time to find someone that can appreciate, like you said, the history of it all.Any opinions on the best way to market a vehicle like this? ebay? auto trader antique/classic? I now have the contact in PA, and will be inquiring soon about some more mechanical details, etc.[i have larger photos if anyone happens to be interested]Appreciate the help.Cheers, Will G.
nearchoclatetown Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 How close to the town of Chocolate is it? I wouldn't mind taking a peak. Try the DBC website want ads. If you are not in a big hurry to sell, try the DBC newsletter. The newsletter probably has more viewers. I think the new issue is almost in the mail, and the next one won't be for two months. Sure would be nice to keep it in the right hands. There are lots of online websites, Hemmings for example. You can contact me off the forum if you want.
wenthur Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Will, You personally could get the car for a song, and I have bought a car from that area recently, it cost $1300 (open car carrier} or $1800 enclosed carrier. to get that car home from the east coast. Then you too can be the star of a parade any day you choose. In fact my wife and I are going to the parade today down to the super market, and 1 lap around town MIKE
wmgotthardt Posted May 27, 2007 Author Posted May 27, 2007 Again, I'm just a good friend of the owner's son. I have no personal interest in the vehicle, simply trying to help her (owner) research any potential market. I spoke with her last night, the vehicle does NOT run. She has no desire to transport from current location (Nanty Glo, PA), or invest in any restoration. Her only real hope for the car, which has been in her family since original purchase, is that it goes to someone that has an appreciation for it's history.I appreciate the replies, it's been a big help. If anyone would like the larger versions of the pics, or even would like to view the vehicle in person, please feel free to e-mail me: wgotthardt@comcast.netCheers, Will G.
wenthur Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 well I could not resist, contacted the owner, who's main concern was that her father car got into the right hands and not cut-up and made into a hot rod. with a few emails and a couple phone calls we are now a 2 Dodge Brothers family. Since I am new to the DB group, I have no Idea were to find parts, that will be needed. I haven't gotten my newsletter yet, and hopefully it has part resource info in it. On the "28 does it have a thermometer cap like my "24 does. That is so cool!! Also I have been on line this evening looking for pictures to use as a guide for future restoration and haven't found anything in real detail. If someone has a photo journal of their project I could really use it. MIKE
dwollam Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I like you already! Jump in with both feet! You are now fully involved in the DB disease! Welcome aboard!Dave
nearchoclatetown Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 The pics I've seen make this look like a very good car.Congrats on your new purchase. You will find several vendors that advertise in the DBC newsletter.
Jim Anselmo Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Mike,Congrats on your purchase. You now are the proud owner of the last 4-cylinder model that Dodge Brothers made, the series 128/129 Fast Four (the 129 has 4 wheel brakes). The claim was that this DB was very fuel efficient and was the "Mile a Minute" Dodge (i.e. 60 MPH, although I myself have only ever done 40 MPH, but then again the engine was in dire need of a rebuild.) I own two of the same vehicle and have been in the process of rebuilding the engine on one of them. I attached a picture from the day my car arrived from Minnesota. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I by no means profess to be an expert, but I might be able to help. Also, I do have an original parts manual that has some very detailed pictures if you might need a scan of anything.Regards,Jim
