The "448723" is a serial number, and totally meaningless.

Stromberg produced 3 different styles and MANY varieties of the U-2. Most were zinc alloy (pot metal), which has cracked to pieces. Even the few which are cast iron have some zinc alloy components.

Due to the popularity of the U-2 (used on many makes of vehicle), the zinc alloy castings have been reproduced in aluminum by a gentleman in Australia. The Dodge Brothers Club has been importing these castings into the USA, so one can purchase a single set of castings without the heavy shipping charge (shipping charges are on a declining scale). We do not sell these castings, so please contact the Dodge Brothers Club.

Originals should only be used for the non-castings parts to transfer to the reproduction aluminum castings.

Safety is an issue too infrequently discussed in our hobby. The zinc alloy problem is not unique to the Stromberg carburetor, as most restorers are aware. Zinc alloy produced prior to about 1932 (later for some companies) contained a higher content of lead, which has caused the problems. The originals are a fire awaiting an opportunity!

Many years ago, we acquired a large inventory of N.O.S. carburetor parts in the time period. ALL of the U-2 castings (even the N.O.S. ones) were unusable!

For less than "numbers matching" show vehicles, there are replacement carburetors available.

Jon.
