Help! Need known "good" steering column.

I need a steering column for my 90 Reatta. Mine has a major problem which my mechanic cannot fix!

(Linkage disconnect problem somewhere between the flat pot metal rectangular plate with teeth on it and the ignition switch rod) We took the column apart, got the linkage working, put it back in the car, test drove it down the street, pulled up to his house, turned the ignition off and it disconnected again! I'm through with this column!

So, anyone out there selling a known "good" steering column? I would prefer a low mileage column

with no issues. (100K miles or less) I would also prefer it complete as possible.

I need to get one soon as the car "died" right in front of HIS house.

Thanks in advance, Kit / 90 Reatta Coupe / 86 Fiero GT

Kit,

I want to go out and have a look at my columns and I will give you a call this morning at the number you provided in your PM.

Jim

P.S. I do not like to use the PM system here because I then have no record of what was said.

when sending a PM, make sure to check the "keep message" box, and your message will be save, though only if you check the box.

Update: steering column is now fixed. (correctly I might add!):)

You know that pot metal piece that is rectangular in shape and has

teeth on one end of it? Most of the ones I've seen fail by breaking

or cracking but mine, as it turns out was actually bent. (It was slightly curved)

This curving caused the "bottle-opener" side of the potmetal bracket to "pop-off"

the 2 locator pins on the side of the steering column.

So, if your ignition key just turns all the way forward without any resistance,

you have no dash lights, no starter engaging, nothing...then the linkage that goes

to your ignition switch (which is further down on the column) has probably become disconnected

with the potmetal bracket. We bent mine back into shape in a vise. (Use a straight-edge to measure

your progress. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Jim, if you're reading this I still want that column as a spare!

Thanks, Kit
