Guest kevinshea
Trying to reproduce the part number stamping on the black and red oval tags that delco remy used to ID parts such as distributor, generator, starter, etc.I can get them etched at a jeweler, but was wondering about stamping. Looking for a source or a place to buy the stamping tool(s)

mrpushbutton
The original stamping on those tags was very fine, a quality of stamping you (or I) would be hard pressed to duplicate using hand stamps. They were probobly done on a machine using stamping wheels with extremely fine dies. I find that engraving (done at a bowling trophy place--cheaper than a jewler) most closely approximates the OE stamping. The characters have that fine-line appearane, not all squashed-ot as with hand stamps, and they are in a perfect line, also hard to do with hand stamps
scott@jchadwickco.com
I do a lot of ID tags on the pantograph engraving machine, they come out looking great. I can replicate the "stamped" look if desired. scott@jchadwickco.com jchadwickengraving.com
