86 2dr.ltd
Well I got the pump working and the car running but I dont know why or what the problem was. Now whats wrong is - It idles irratically ,and stumbles or hesitates when increasing RPM's, will even stall if you dont raise RPMs ever so slowly. At idle it doesnt sound like ignition or valve timing could be off, but one of the last things previous owner had done was timing gear and chain. If it were off one tooth would it run fairly as it does now? Should I look into the TPS or MAP or even something else?
harry yarnell
yup, could easly be a mis aligned timing chain.
86 2dr.ltd
Now I'm thinking its the MAS - unpluged it and the problem goes away. I have another MAS at home from a 87 Delta 88 3.8 engine. If I hook this up could it damage the ECM or this other MAS?
Guest
If your talking the old plastic MAF sencers GM had 2 types. One was a true cylinder and the other had a hour glass shape to it where the air flows thru. I would not think it any problem switching them. It does sound like a bad MAS sencer.<P>Tom
86 2dr.ltd
Yes Tom the 86 Riv. has the barrel and the 87 Delta has the hour glass. That engine ran great. I bought the rear ended car last summer and dismantled it my self. I get worried about damaging these expensive electric parts. They seem confused enough with out throwing in "an outsider".
