Guest dabecker65@gmail.com Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 THe individual shield with the "deer head, cross and checkerboard was David Buick's (Buik) Scottish family emblem - first used in 1937. The Tri-shield was first used in 1960 as best I recall.
Centurion Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Although I cannot substantiate this theory, I believe that the earlier coat-of-arms design became a tri-shield in 1960 in recognition of the three, new-for-'59 series of LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra.
Guest COMPACTBC Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 A complete description of the Buick "Tri-Shield" as well as other Buick "mascots" is in a book called THE BUICK A COMPLETE HISTORY by Terry B. Dunham and Lawrence R. Gustin. (ISBN 0-915038-64-1) The Buick crest was first displayed in 1937 and it is taken from the ancestral arms used by the ancient Scottish family of Buick as a heraldic device on its armor. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> According to this book the Tri-Shield was adopted in 1959, but did not appear on the cars until 1960.
