Guest macmic87 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 my father has a 1941 buick sedanette. we are trying to find an up to date paint code. the code we have is a ppg #3175c which is a dbu base. the car is a dark burgandy. your help is appreciated.
Bill Stoneberg Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Have you talked to your local PPG dealer ? If you find a good one, they can be very helpful. Tell them its a old code and they should have a cross for it.
Guest macmic87 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 i was hoping with what seems to be a limited color choice that some one would have it handy. i will be going to the paint supplier on monday.
the41cadguy Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 My color chart shows two maroons for 1941. One is quite a bit darker than the other. Titian Maroon is combination 578. Royal Maroon Metallic is several shades lighter. Combination 563. The mixing combinations I have are DuPont. If you want color that is as near possible the original shade try Color-ite. They have a web site. Hope this helps. By the way, Color-ite asks a 25 percent premium for reds and maroons. Maybe this will cut down on "re-sale," or "auction" red 1959 Cadillac Eldorados.
Guest macmic87 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 thanks for the info. i will check it out
Bill Stoneberg Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Have you bought a red or maroon recently ? Its almost 500 bucks a gallon for the good stuff. My paint store tells me that is because of the large amount of pigment in the paint. At 2 + gallons for a large car, it will cut down on the "paint it red and sell it" crowd.
Guest macmic87 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 have more info. the data plate on the car says the paint should be #565. where can i find a reference to this number to see that color.thanks
Guest imported_Thriller Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 It would be in the BCA Judging Manual...large PDF. That code is for Lancaster Grey...the wheels would be either body colour or optionally Dante Red..."Wheels Stripe" would be white if the wheels are grey or silver if the red.
Matt Harwood Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Here are some color chips, though I wonder how accurate they are, being 65 years old and scanned into a computer: Paint Chips Here's a Lancaster Gray Roadmaster 71-C: Hope this helps!
Guest macmic87 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 thanks matt,i will try to post a pic here to see if you people think this looks like a 1941 color.
Matt Harwood Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Hi Mark,I know of a very similar car that is a 25,000 mile original and still has most of its original paint (code 563, Royal Maroon). Here's more information on that particular car:http://www.dualcarbregistry.org/Registry/04-034.htmlThe age of these cars makes determining exactly what original paint looks lie difficult. I actually thought the car in your photo was that 25,000 mile original, it looks so similar. The color looks authentic enough to me from photographs. The only tip-off would be too much metallic in the paint. There were some basic metallics in 1941, but they were nothing like what we have today, very subtle.Hope this helps.
