Peter Gariepy Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Not sure if this car has been modified. What do you think? http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-barrett-jackson-1926-packard-custom-boattail-speedster/
West Peterson Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Yeah. They've put radial tires on it. It really ruins the whole look of the car.
Clipper47 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Is that a 1922 Twin-Six engine with two cylinders loped off??
Guest imported_Speedster Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I Like the Hood Ornament. Can't say much for the rest of it. Looks like a 'High dollar Door-stop', to me.
Guest Randy Berger Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 They didn't do very well at copying the ox-bow either. Packard's signature front end was a nice smooth arc, not a flattened one.
tbirdman Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Hey I learned a new phrase from the BJ auctions...it's a tribute car.
Guest imported_Speedster Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 A 'Tribute' to a Door-stop, is Still a 'Door-stop'.
Guest BigKev Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 yes a Tribute to having more money then sense.......
tbirdman Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Like today a 32 Ford going for $150K & 10% buyer fee at BJ Auction.
Guest 55_Clipper Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Naw, it ain't "modified" 'till it has some 24's and ground effects......
Steve_Mack_CT Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 When that picture popped up on my screen I had all I could think of was the scene from "Animal House" - when they are reviewing pledge candidates and Flounder's picture comes up..But it does have a nice hood ornament!
Guest imported_Speedster Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Just saw a '29 633 Opera Coupe at BJ Auction, but it had Wrong carb, clear-coat paint, errors in interior and other small defects, and the bid reflected those problems.
DutchDarrin Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 No such model was built by Packard in 1926The Great Grand Wizard

Dr Morbius Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Grand Wizard .... Eh? ..... Grand Wizard of what? ......... May I ask, oh exalted one. ...............Steve
West Peterson Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I still think, except for the wheels and the valve covers, that it's quite original.

West Peterson Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Okay, okay... now I see that the headlight lenses have been changed also. But other than that, this is the real deal.
tbirdman Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I've been told that this car is heading towards Portland Oregon. I heard it was sold again after the auction winning bid (possibly initially bought by the seller).I wonder how many people buy their own cars back if the sales price is going to make them take a bath. It's painful as they have to take a 18% hit.
West Peterson Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I've been told that if you buy your own car back, the commission percentage is way different so that it doesn't "sting" so much.I've just noticed another thing that doesn't look original on this car. The exhaust system looks modified.

Even the Serial Number plate is only a reproduction. I wonder if it is actually titled as a 1926 Packard.???
mrpushbutton Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Is this the latest masterpiece from the Ohio undertaker?
Packard8 Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 The only positive thing I can say is that no actual Packards were harmed during the construction of this automobile.
