imported_buick5563
Austin Texas is closed for this. Some snow. Mostly ice. But I was able to light a fire under my "veranda" in front of my garage and sip some Christmas Irish whiskey (Midleton's extra rare). Guest imported_MrEarl
If the snow and ice is so rare why didn't you keep it there. Instead of sending it my way. If you're gonna send the ice then how 'bout sending the Midletons xtra rare with it.

Guest 53Nailhead
Just another day in above the 49th....maybe even alittle above average temps for us! It's well into the -15 to -25 with windchills in some parts of Canada! How's Buffalo & the lake effect Stevo! Les
Guest BJM
When I sold my 64 Wildcat convertible it was sold to a guy from Norway. He came and picked it up in the middle of (our) winter wherein in Iowa we had about 12 inches of snow at the time. I was thinking this guy is crazy. Flys over from Europe, rents a truck and trailer on the east coast to pick up my car and take it to southern California to load it on a vessel. This little, slight guy backs his rig onto my property, correctly lines it up to my garaged 'Cat and puts it up on the trailer as though it were a nice day in the fall. Then I ask him about his situation in Norway. He says he "typically" had about 9 feet of snow for most of the long winter. He kept a path from the house to the garage. The garage was wood stove heated "as hot as you want it". 9 feet of snow. He was all of 5'5". I can't get that image out of my mind when I want to complain of "bad weather"
serb
It is just perfect here in the Buffalo/Niagara area. The temps have been between 10F-20F during the day, single digits at night. We got the ice the other day but not like they did in the midwest. The trees and everything got a nice coating of ice and then it snowed for a couple of days,(the real fluffy large flakes). I never got a chance to get out and take some pictures of the trees. When the sun was shining, it was perfect for pictures. The sun caused some of the ice to melt yesterday. All in all, the weather has been great this winter so who could complain about a little snow, ice and cold. After all, it is winter in Western New York. We are prime for a big storm if the winds are right and everything else falls into place. Lake Erie water temps are such that the lake has not froze over yet. With the wind whipping across the lake and the moisture that it will pick up will cause havoc when we get it.Lamar, if you need some sipping stuff, let me know and I will send you a bottle of some good Serbian brandy.Stevo

Here's some photos from KS on another forum I frequent - Kansas Ice Storm Thread - one look at the second photo and a friend of mine said "Cool...ice cream from the source".Actually, it's going to hurt to have things like this. They're talking about fresh fruit and vegetable prices tripling due to freezing temperatures in CA.That kind of looks like about a November photo....And really, if you are going to drink at a time like this, choose something appropriate, like perhaps Canadian Club
NTX5467
Perhaps some Wild Turkey whiskey might be appropriate? Or what about Southern Comfort and a warm fire place as the Buick Projects are pondered? It IS unusual for Austin, TX to get that much cool weather . . . but the year it snowed on the beach south of Houston . . . THAT was unusual.Key thing is that our northern associates are more used to that stuff than people in Austin, TX are . . . (having endured much more snow and ice, with all due respect over the past week than Austin residents knew existed!)NTX5467
Guest unclefogey
Thriller,Thanks a lot. I had no clue that a website on ice fishing existed. I just spent a half hour reading some of the posts when I surely had a lot of other things to do. Like shoveling the snow off my driveway.John

Years ago I would fill a beer mug with ice, then whatever SC would fit, and my evening was made.Glad to be of service Unclefogey...IceShanty is a pretty extensive place. I obviously don't actually do enough fishing as I have well over 1000 posts there too.
old-tank
Any weather involving solid precipitation around here, just shuts everything down...we have no way to deal with it like our more northern friends. We usually have only about 10 real days of winter here and then 10 months of summer.Willie
Bill Stoneberg
Willie, you forgot the one month of Hell masqurading as summer where it is 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity.
Guest Shaffer
Neat photos! We have only seen one small dusting of snow here a couple of weeks ago and it melted within a couple of hours. Tomorrow (Sunday) some are forecasting rain, some freezing rain then over to rain, but who knows? BTW- looks like you have a Southern Live Oak there. Nice tree! I currently have a couple planted. I hope they grow quickly before I am too old to enjoy! lol.
NTX5467
Bill, I didn't know that the "Houston Humidity" reached as for north as where Willie is? Up there, maybe the "Hill Country Humidity" is from the foliage and cooler valleys and ravines? The real question might be . . . "Where are the biggest mosquitoes and do they like the salt air from the coast?"Looking forward to warmer weather . . . it's supposed to be in the lower 50s soon and I'll bet people break out the tank tops and shorts for that "tropical heat wave". . .NTX5467
Dandy Dave
Really has been a weird winter. We are just starting to get typical January temperatures the last week or so here and have had only a few dustings of snow and nothing to plow. The plow trucks, Back Hoe and Bulldozer are just sitting quitly awaiting the BIG ONE. If my axle was fixed I could have Driven the 15 Buick as we had a Day that was in the seventys in the early part of January. The caterpillars so far have not lied this year. Black on both ends and brown in the middle. Dave!
old-tank
After a 10 days of cloudy, cold, rain and some ice it popped up to 66* today (75* in the shop). After a little work we went for a 60 mile drive in one of the 55's. Life is good....Willie
imported_buick5563
Well,The weather has gotten better so no time for lollygaggin' on the forum. I was going to reply earlier that lest you who know me forget, I grew up in DC. (Not officially a Yankee BTW... except to Texans ) I remember a snow we had on Washington's birthday in the early 1980's that was 3 feet (he was our first prez for my brethren in the Great White North). Snow is way different than these southern ice storms. Willis is right though, that you guys are way more prepared than we are. Heck, Dallas, three hours to my north, is more prepared than here. Our de-icer is fertilizer. The salt is saved for our margaritas . Speaking of drinking... Southern Comfort? Canadian Club? I'm not in college anymore, sirs. It was in the 60's here today. Last night I put a top wood kit in my model A (nailhead powered hot rod to be). Today I installed a hidden stereo in my friends 60 Electra. Schaffer, that is a live oak. The garage was built around it, and I had to build a ramp to enter so as to not disturb the roots. That's about it for now. Temps are supposed to drop again this week. No ice fishing though... Man, those dudes are manly.Mike

NTX5467
I guess that since you're not in college anymore Mike, you've "graduated" to Crown?? Or Weller & Weller Water??It was middle '50s up here today. A beautiful blue sky. The "wintry mix" we were supposed to be getting Monday and Tuesday is now just "rain". What a difference a few degrees of heat can make! It was rainy and foggy on Saturday, though. It would have been a great day for a trip to Buffalo for a meeting, but in the "heat (or cold) of the moment" last week, we got it moved to this next weekend. Oh well . . .Enjoy!NTX5467
Guest imported_Thriller
Well, the news tonight showed snow in NM and AZ...interesting.By the way, if you think you have big mosquitoes, come visit us in the summer The Canadian Club was partly intended as a pun, but I guess it snuck under the radar (which is soon to be flying out of ND in drones). I don't drink much whiskey or spirits overall any more...I like the beer and my homemade wine, some Kapali in the hot chocolate on a cold winter day...occasionally still and SC over ice...occasional Appleton's....We've got a little over 2' of ice most places now where the water is still...plenty to drive a truck on if there isn't too much snow...as long as the weather holds out, I should be fishing this weekend.

SledZeppelin
Got at least a solid 1" of ice, especially that pooled up in the back of my truck on an incline. The rustbucket '73 Centurion sat sheltered in the garage.
