Tim72 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I am looking for information on how to wire and install a tic tac toc gauge on my 72 Olds Cutlass.
texasred Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Just the tic-toc-tac? Here's the wiring diagram for a '71...which is the same as a '72 for the tic-toc-tac.http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o263/texasred_satx/rallypakwiring.jpgIf you are installing the other gauges, you'll need the proper sending units. The idiot light senders won't work with gauges. The pins on the connector at the gauge need to be reconfigured, too. Refer to the diagramGood luck.C.J.
Guest imported_Julian Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I can provide pics of the wirning harness for the guage quad if you need it and it would be helpful.Julian
Tim72 Posted January 19, 2007 Author Posted January 19, 2007 Julian,Thank you for your reply. At present There was suppose to be a clock option in the cutlass supreme which I have. I do not think the tic tac toc was an option except on the 442. Since I race I thought it would be a nice part of my dash. I suppose I can get a wiring harness for this but I have been told that there was an article in the monthly magazine some time ago showing how to wire and install. Any information you could send would be appreciated. Thank you!Tim
joe_padavano Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 The tach/clock combo was never factory available by itself. It only came with the gauge pack in the LH pod as part of the Rally Pack option. This was available on any Cutlass (even the wagons), not just the 442. The underdash harness has the correct plugs for the clock and lights already installed - just plug them in. The tach feed wire was a separate part that you can get from repro houses but it's very simple to make one yourself. It's simply a shielded piece of coax cable with the shield being grounded at both ends and the center wire going from the coil to the tach terminal. You can also use unshielded wire, but it may cause interference with the radio. If you are installing the tach for racing, let me say that the factory tic-toc-tac combo is not your best choice. The tach face is mostly obscured by the clock and what little remains visible is usually obscured by the steering wheel. It's a clever idea that is best left to the restorers. If you care more about function than originality, simply install an aftermarket tach in the clock hole.
