Ricko1937 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Awhile back I think there was a post on how to clean small rusty parts by using a 5 gallon bucket with water and some other additives and it was hooked up to a battery charger that electronically cleaned the parts. Does anyone recall this or know where I can get info on it. Thanks
nearchoclatetown Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I've tried it, it works OK but some other methods are better. This one involves a plastic bucket, battery charger, and a sacrifice piece of steel, not stainless. Fill bucket with H2O, a box of baking soda, and hook the electrodes to rusty part and other piece of steel. Fully submerse the rusty part, other one doesn't matter. Rusty part and sacrificial piece can't touch and I forget which way to hook up wires. One way will bubble slightly, the other way bigtime. You want the bigtime bubbles. Check your good part every day or so.

Guest imported_pete324rock Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I've used laundry detergent - it works but as said before, theres much better ways-media blasting etc. I've tried muratic acid but the fumes will lay on everything around giving it all a good coat of rust eventually.Penny wise -pound foolish fits here.
