Rusty_OToole Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Somewhere recently I saw some info on an unusual Franklin engine. Apparently they made an experimental V8 of 322 cu in with F head cylinder heads. Now I can't remember where I saw it. Can anyone tell me about this?
ak Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I believe that there was manufactured by Air Cooled Motors, a pancake 10 cylinder for WWII drones, one of which is in the Northeast Auto museum in Norwich, NY
Franklin31 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 The only 8-cyl engines made by Franklin was for powering the flying wing, N9MB; powered by two 300 hp 8 cylinder Franklin 0-540-7 engines. Just type flying wing in Google and glean info. This plane flew in 2004 [last flew in 1945].
PFitz Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Gentlemen,Wasn't "Franklin" the automobile company as we know it. It was "Air Cooled Motors", a company started by two former Franklin engineers who left Franklin when it was going down hill finacially in the early 30's. They not only made the aircooled aircraft engines, but early on they made in-line 6 and 8 cylinder commercial engines too.PFitz.
